OziExplorerCE is moving map (real time tracking) software for PocketPC, Window Mobile PDA's and all Android smartphones, tablets, it uses raster map images and It allows you to track your position received from a GPS on a map. In our point of view it's one of the best.
This page presents step by step instruction on how to install and use OziCE (Oziexplorer) on your PDA.
  • Full mobile navigation gps system includes 4 things:
  • 1) PDA, 2) GPS-receiver, 3) Application Oziexplorer CE (Ozi CE), 4) GPS maps.

    Download OziCE and Oziexplorer Android

By clicking the link below you'll be redirected to Oziexplorer website where you can download the latest versions of Oziexplorer and Oziexplorer-CE (OziCE - PDA version) click here

    Installing the OziCE on PDA

At first, unzip a downloaded file. Then connect your PDA to a PC or a laptop via ActiveSync and start that installion wizard of Ozi CE and Oziexplorer Android.
At the beggining of installation you'll be prompted to pick up a space where to install the application OziCE. We are recommending to install it in PDA's memory, that as the application installs on flash card, then if by changing a flash card, the app won't work.
In few seconds installation process on your PDA is finished and you can use the Oziexplorer CE, but before that, let's check some application settings.

    OziCE settings

Oziexplorer CE dialog box If you are going to use program OziCE with the gps-receiver to you it is important to adjust necessary COM port in settings of OziCE. Open the menu [ File => Configuration => NMEA (GPS) ]. COM port's number depends on what type of your gps-receiver. For example it is usual that Bluetooth one is reserved on 8-th or 5-th COM port, if you have a bluetooth gps-receiver, than in settings put a COM port value = 8. By default is a COM port 1.

To check up correctness of adjustment the COM port, turn on (or connect to a PDA) your gps-receiver, if use a bluetooth gps-device, before starting on a handheld computer the application OziCE, activate a Bluetooth connection on your PDA.
Now start the OziCE, press the button "Lightning" button GPS On the bottom navigating panel of the application nav.panel Ozi CE,
To activate a gps connection between Oziexplorer and gps-receiver. Next step, go to the menu of Oziexplorer CE [ Map => Display NMEA Input ] and if COM port setting is correct, than in opened window you can see the running upwards text strings of the gps-device response.

As even modern PDA's have no sufficient memory to store gps maps in the basic PDA's memory, we shall change some settings of OziCE for that, that it was possible to load gps maps and to save some gps data on a flash card.
For this purpose preliminary on a flash-card we create (for convenience) a folder "OZI-MAPS" (any other name is possible), further we go to OziCE settings [ File => Configuration => Map & Data Files ] and change from the path to image files (.OZF2), for (.MAP) files gps maps and Oziexplorer data files (which was by default) to the path for our newly created folder on a flash-card "OZI-MAPS", in two input fields [ Data File Path ] and [ Map File Path ]. next in settings [ File => Configuration => Map Image Files ] change the default value to our "OZI-MAPS" folder.
Now the main (by default) directory of loading gps maps and record ozi data will be is on a flash-card, that in turn will unload the memory of a PDA and will simplify new gps maps upload on a flash-card (have taken out a flash-card, through the personal computer copy on it a necessary map, have inserted back into a handheld computer) and all in a matter of seconds.
You get a faster way to copy maps and to exclude the way each time connect your PDA to the personal computer through ActiveSync and to wait 5-10 minutes while needed gps maps will be copied to your device.

Voice and visual prompts on a route

Voice and visual prompts mode automatically directs you while in the navigating mode you follow an active route.

Working in Oziexplorer enviroment with gps maps

GPS maps on OziCE screen can be displayed both in a mode gps, and in an independent mode without the gps-module (receiver).
As applications OziCE and Oziexplorer goes without gps maps. You can get them in our website section Maps OZF2 for OziCE (PDA) or try to prepare a neended map by yourself.

Old buddy, The track. Why you need it? and howto's?

So, that such a track in OziCE. a track line that displayed on a gps map that loaded in OziCE and shows your real-time movements. In OziCE the function of record of a track can be turn on or switched off according to your desire at any moment. The track is displayed as a color line (color of a line can be set in the application settings). That the track was displayed on the screen and recorded to the track log file (.plt), the "track on" button кнопка - Ozi трек should be pressed.

As the track displays in real time all your movements on a map, you will always know where you were this or that minute on your route and if you have forgotten that way which you went, having looked at a track, you always can return to an initial point.

The Ozi-track can be used for check and adjustment of gps map. But it is necessary to remember, that for these purposes are good not each track. Here some requirements to such tracks.
For example we have a raster map of the city N., since maps usually have the rectangular-square form, we visually draw two cross lines through all map (so "X" or so "+"). Certainly each city has its own (different) structure of roads and to pass straight from one corner to another, it doesn't work. But also it is not necessary for us, the more bends and turns will pass, the better. Save the turned out track in a file ".PLT" and after that, it is possible to do some coordinate adjustment of a map using the given track.
